Public Restrooms and Their Impact on Business

Guest post by Maid Perfect Commercial Cleaning

Whether your business services individual consumers or fellow companies, first impressions are the key to building steadfast customer relationships. Initial perceptions of businesses are deeply rooted in our natural human instinct to pass judgment quickly, and those perceptions tend to stick in memory for an extended period of time. The judgments made regarding your business are not solely based on interactions with employees and staff or the quality of your product or service; they are also directly correlated with what a customer experiences when entering and subsequently spending time in your office or facility.

A clean entrance, lobby or reception area, and conference room creates the potential for a positive initial judgment from customers and clients. While most businesses understand this common sense logic, certain areas that clients are sure to visit if they spend enough time in your office can be overlooked. The cleanliness of your public restroom not only impacts a customer’s first impression; it may also have a lasting impact on your organization’s reputation.

Restroom Cleanliness and Your Business

According to Avmor, a leading manufacturer of professional cleaning solutions, nearly 86% of customers would not visit a place of business again if the public restroom within the facility was not up to par in terms of cleanliness. A survey conducted by Bradley Corporation substantiates claims about public restrooms and customer perceptions, stating the following:

  • 69% of customers believe an unclean restroom indicates insufficient management
  • 67% of customers experience a lowered opinion of the company when restrooms are dirty
  • 63% of customers equate an unkempt restroom with a low degree of care for visitors’ comfort by the company

Each statistic makes it painfully obvious that the cleanliness of your public restroom has a direct impact on your customers’ satisfaction levels.

A Clean Restroom Checklist

To ensure your customers are not part of the 63% of individuals who have a negative experience in a company restroom, it is important to take the steps necessary to keep your public bathrooms in their best shape. Whether you do the work yourself or transfer the responsibility to a janitorial services company, your restroom cleaning checklist should include the following:

  • Clean, disinfect and dry toilets and seats
  • Sanitized urinal and stall door handles
  • Dispensers with feminine hygiene or other products cleaned and stocked
  • Toilet paper, paper towels and hand soap dispensers must be continuously restocked
  • Clean and sanitize floors, walls and counter surfaces
  • Wiped down mirrors and hand dryers
  • Daily waste removal in stalls and common areas
  • Clean and disinfect hard-to-reach areas, like behind the toilets and urinals
  • Careful cleaning and sanitation of high contact areas and touch points
  • Reduce odors by using air fresheners and sprays
  • Regularly check floor drains and clean surrounding grout when necessary

In addition to these frequent tasks, restroom cleaning should also include ongoing maintenance of faucets, toilets, hand dryers and door handles. To help keep germs at bay, it is also integral to maintain cleaning products and equipment specifically used for restrooms, separate from general office space.

Taking the time to keep your organization’s public restroom clean leads to a higher degree of trust and confidence in your business, and lasting positive impressions. To save you and your team time, contact a commercial cleaning service and let them worry about keeping your bathroom tidy.

How to Clean Electronics

How to Clean Electronics

Keep your phone sanitized and free of contaminants that could make you sick!

Electronics are an integral part of daily lives. They intermingle with contents in purses and are dropped on the floor.  Like handles and banisters,  we share phones, tablets and keyboards with friends and strangers.  By cleaning electronics often, we can reduce the spread of germs.

What Not to Do

  • Do not use all-purpose spray with acetone, alcohol or ammonia.
  • Do not use an old terry or dish cloth that might have bits of dust/dirt lodged in it.
  • Do not spray the solution directly on screens. Water damage is costly to fix.
  • Do not turn on the monitor before the solution is done drying. The screen may eventually be damaged.

What You Should Do

Cleaning Without Damaging

  • Apply the cleaning solution to the cloth, not the device.
  • Gently and slowly use circular motions on the screen.
  • Wait for the monitor to dry before turning it back on. Moisture eventually harms the screen.
  • Use distilled water so minerals in hard water don’t affect the screen.

How Does My Phone get Scratched?

In our post, Cleaning Sensitive Surfaces In Your Home, we explain why some surfaces are more easily harmed than others. For example, the iphone 5 is made of glass and aluminium. In general, glass and aluminum are 5 and 2.5 on the Moh Scale, respectively. If you put your phone in your purse without a case, loose coins, titanium jewelry and keys could potentially scratch the surface. Bottom line, make sure small pieces of granite or rocks are kept out of fibers in cloths you use to clean.

Helpful Products for Cleaning Electronics

  • Phone Soap
  • Microfiber or Cotton Cloths
  • Compressed Air (Gets loose dust in ports, plugins and keyboards)

Take a Moment to Appreciate your School Janitors!

As kids head back to school after the holiday break, take a moment to appreciate your school janitors who work hard day after day to keep classrooms and common areas clean.

We recognize and appreciate our janitors by highlighting 5 ways they contribute to a healthy learning environment.

  1. While school kids are enjoying their summer vacation, janitors are working hard. They use this time to prepare for the new school year. Janitors are busy with maintenance including deep cleaning and refinishing floors.
  2. Throughout the year, most students use their gym. Janitors sweep and mop every day, preparing for the next round of athletic events, concerts and assemblies.
  3.  1,000 students will track in 24 pounds of soil during a 3 week period. Janitors strategically position large matts in front of every building entrance to capture up to 40% of this massive amount of dirt before it spreads throughout the school.
  4. Cleaning technology is continually changing. Using industry best practices ensures maximum germ removal and efficiency. Janitors clean cafeterias and hallway floors with microfiber cleaning cloths, removing 99.9% of germs and reducing cross contamination.
  5. Properly maintained carpets can last up to 10 years longer. Janitors use powerful hot water extraction methods to restore classroom carpets, removing dirt from the day.

Cleanliness encourages learning through health and a more enjoyable atmosphere. Thanks to janitorial staff and all individuals who contribute to making our schools conducive to learning and growing!
